Éco Entreprises Québec, partner of the 12th edition of récupération la récolte's campaign

Dedicated to more effective curbside recycling

Montréal, June 26, 2013 - For the sixth consecutive year, Éco Entreprises Québec (ÉEQ), in partnership with participating municipalities from fifteen RMCs in Eastern Quebec, RECYC-QUÉBEC and other partners, is pleased to announce its support of the 12th edition of the Campagne d’information, de sensibilisation et d’éducation à l’amélioration de la qualité et de la quantité des matières résiduelles récupérées dans l’Est du Québec été 2013, an annual campaign to raise awareness about recycling.

ÉEQ is contributing $15,000 to help finance Récupération La Récolte inc., the organization that coordinates this regional effort. The campaign is in keeping with ÉEQ’s mission to promote the recovery of recyclable materials through curbside recycling. “This is an important initiative that, year after year, promotes recycling and encourages the general public to do the right thing, both at home and when they are away from home. In addition, the campaign makes clear the kinds of materials that should be placed in recycling bins, i.e. containers, packaging and printed matter,” said Maryse Vermette, President and CEO of Éco Entreprises Québec.

Studies show that raising public awareness about materials recovery produces excellent results. “Thanks to campaigns like that conducted by La Récolte and the participation of municpal officials, we can continue to enhance curbside recycling in Quebec. Let’s not forget that companies who put containers, packaging and printed matter on Quebec’s market finance the recovery of those materials by paying the net costs of municipal curbside recycling services to the tune of $120 million every year. The companies we represent want the system to operate as optimally as possible to ensure that high quality materials are recovered at the lowest possible cost,” she added.

Éco Entreprises Québec is proud to support Récupération La Récolte, which provides seasonal employment to students who distribute information, raise awareness and educate the public on the 4Rs, i.e. reduction at the source, reuse, recycling and reclamation of residual materials. During the summer season, documentation is handed out to residents and tourists in the regions covered by the fifteen RMCs in the Bas-Saint-Laurent, Côte-Nord and Gaspésie-îles-de-la-Madeleine regions.

Éco Entreprises Québec invests in many initiatives to enhance municipal curbside recycling services and develop tools to support businesses’ eco-responsible practices. In 2012, the organization toured municipalities to meet with elected officials throughout the province to develop its partnership with the municipal sector, and promote best practices to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of curbside recycling. Initiatives such as Récupération La Récolte’s program play an crucial role in optimizing the curbside recycling system in Quebec by promoting simple, efficient and eco-friendly methods of managing recyclable materials.
