Improved collection tools
“Éco-RECYC Kitchen” Design Contest
Improving curbside recycling performance starts at home. That is why ÉEQ became a sponsor of the “Éco-RECYC Kitchen” contest for student and professional designers. The objective of the contest was to encourage greater participation of residents through the design of a reasonably-priced sorting module adapted to modern kitchens. With prizes totalling $18,000, the contest showcased winning entries and celebrated their designers on May 21, 2008, during the Salon international du design intérieur de Montréal. ÉEQ is working closely with RECYC-QUÉBEC and grand prize winners to ensure that the new tools are further developed and marketed.
Contest: Revisiting Montréal's green box
To support innovative design and the work of local designers, the City of Montréal invited three industrial design companies to participate in a prize contest in May 2007 to develop a new tool for collecting curbside recycling materials. Industrial designer Claude Mauffette won the contest with an innovative recycling container that is a hybrid between box and bag. Éco Entreprises Québec participated in project financing with a view to optimizing materials recycling in densely populated areas. The prototype is now being reworked to better meet certain criteria, notably with regard to the manufacturing process and weatherproofing. It will be tested in some city neighbourhoods during the spring of 2009.
